  • First of all you need VirtualBox, theoretically any other VM software such as VMware Virtual Machine should do as well. It should not matter which VM you prefer.
  • In the second step you install WINDOWS 10 or 11, whichever you prefer, in a new machine. Redirect the camera you want to use to the virtual machine under /Settings/Ports/USB. The camera is not automatically redirected to the VM like audio and microphone.
  • Tip: Keep the WINDOWS installation as small as possible and remove superfluous programs, as the VM software requires few resources.
  • Enter the VM start in the “Start programs” of Linux so that the VM starts automatically.
  • The last step is to install the communication programs you need and set them up.

If you want to play games under Linux or need the camera under Linux, simply shut down the VM, you can restart it at any time. There is also the possibility to set the VM to “Pause” under VirtualBox, but I have not tried whether this brings the same benefit.

As long as the virtual machine is switched off, no calls or messages will arrive on the PC or notebook.
