NiceHash now with inactivity fees

Yes, I’m flabbergasted now, NiceHash now with inactivity fees 😳 0.0001 BTC/month “for not mining”. Is that cheeky now? 🧐

I have received neither an email nor a notification and have not been informed of this. Even if I am an active miner, it could happen that I mine temporarily on another platform and am then suddenly charged a fee. All the people I contacted about this were also unaware of this. That’s why I’m writing this article to let you know.

The information definitely only comes from one source. You can find more details in the short video.

Service fee for inactive accounts

What is an inactive account?

An inactive account is an account on which no BTC activity has taken place for more than 6 months.

When is the inactivity fee charged?

The inactivity fee will only be charged for inactive accounts from October 1, 2024.

How do I know if my account is marked as inactive?

Inactive accounts will receive an email one month before the start of the charge to give them enough time to complete an activity and reset the timer.

Is the inactivity fee only charged to the account?

Yes, the inactivity fee is only deducted from the inactive account balance. When the account balance reaches zero, no fee is charged and no further costs are incurred.

What happens when the account balance reaches zero?

When the inactive account reaches zero, the account is scheduled to be closed. There are no additional costs for this.

Does logging into the account reset the inactivity timer?

No, logging into the account does not reset the timer. Only one of the transactions listed resets the timer:

  • Purchase of hashrate via the marketplace
  • Purchase EasyMining or TeamMining packages
  • Receive a mining payout by selling your hashrate via NiceHash
  • Receive a payment via NiceHash Pay as a verified merchant

Can I close my NiceHash account before it is automatically deleted?

Yes, you can close your account by going to “My settings” -> “Security” -> “Close account”.

I don’t have access to my account, can I still delete it?

All account deletion requests must be initiated by the account holder. To ensure that the request comes from the rightful owner of the account, we recommend that you regain access to the account and initiate the process from there.

Can I close the account despite a credit balance?

Yes, an account with a credit balance can also be closed. However, we recommend that you withdraw your credit balance before closing the account.

What should I do if my BTC balance is below the payout threshold?

By restoring access to your account, you can withdraw your funds. If your balance is below the minimum withdrawal threshold, you can top up your balance with a BTC deposit or use the Lightning Network to withdraw, where the minimum withdrawal amount is only 10 satoshis.
