Illegal residence, also known as “overstay”, is strictly prosecuted in Thailand. Free visa check at the hospital now.

That sounds strange, but it’s true. Yes, that happened to me yesterday. Normally you don’t notice this when the service employee under the counter is leafing through your passport. She looked at me and said I didn’t have a valid visa 😳

I referred the lady to the “Privilege Visa”, whereupon she held an old NON-IMM / O-A visa under my nose and said: “You are overstay”. So I referred her to the “Privilege Visa” again, whereupon she frantically continued to leaf through her passport.

After she had discovered the visa, she seemed relieved and checked me in for the Rotine (ambulant).

The structure of doctors, pharmacies, clinics and hospitals is very different to the western world. In this case, it was more of a routine check-up with the diabetologist.

The same thing happened to me at immigration during the 90-day report.

It’s probably a mix-up that occurred after the change from “Elite Visa” to “Privilege Visa”. The passport and membership card still say “Elite Visa”, and the reference is to the “Privilege Visa”.
