The end of Skype – game over
After many years of loyal service: The end of Skype – Microsoft will discontinue the popular messenger service in May 2025.
Skype was acquired by Microsoft in 2011 and was one of the best-known platforms for video and voice calls for a long time. But with the growing competition from WhatsApp, FaceTime and the like, the market has changed.
Microsoft relies on Teams
Microsoft Teams was introduced as a new communication solution back in 2017, and many companies around the world now use it for chats and meetings. Teams has even been directly integrated into Windows 11 since 2021.
Even if Skype has a nostalgic significance for many, Teams offers modern functions and seamless integration into Microsoft’s ecosystem. So if you want to stay in touch, you can easily switch to Teams.
What does this mean for Skype users?
Skype will remain available until May 2025, after which the service will be discontinued. Microsoft recommends switching to Teams, as many contacts can already be found there.
Even if it is a shame that Skype will soon be history, there is still the option of staying connected via new platforms. Maybe it’s the perfect time to try something new! 😊
